Junior Issac Mathew was just nominated as a TAMStar of the week. I spoke with Issac about his time at TAMS, his artwork, and his hopes for the future.

So Isaac, what brought you to TAMS? How did you hear about it and why did you decide to attend?

Issac: My brother went to TAMS and was in the class of 2013. I decided to come [to TAMS] because he told me how fun it was to be here and how he's learned so much.

Which track are you in and why did you choose it?

Issac: I’m doing the visual arts track. As for why, I’m not too sure myself.

Had you done art before coming to TAMS?

Issac: I’ve been taking art classes since middle school.

What kind of art?

Issac: I do pretty much everything. Realistic to cartoons. I also try to use new mediums and experiment around.

So you were nominated for your great volunteering attitude. Tell me a little bit about what volunteering you've been doing since coming to TAMS.

Isaac: I’m a bit lost on that part! We went to South Lakes Park [for Fall Orientation] and helped out. I grabbed bags of mulch out of the truck.

What are you looking forward to most at TAMS?

Issac: Probably meeting similar minded people. Research, too.

What are you interested in researching?

Issac: I haven't really decided yet. I just want to know what it feels like to be in a lab.

I'd like to hear more about something you mentioned earlier: you talked about wanting to meet similar minded people. What does that entail for you? What kind of people do you hope to meet at TAMS?

At TAMS, you meet a lot of "smart" kids [who] share a lot of interests with you. So, that’s pretty cool.

Thanks for speaking with us, Issac.
